stool.D won iF & DDW

Posted by IPD Lab | IPD

stool.D won iF Design Award 2019, a world-renowned design prize. The winning product, stool.D is a cycling enabled stool, and won in the discipline Professional Concept category. Each year, the world’s oldest independent design organization, Hannover-based iF International Forum Design GmbH, organizes the iF DESIGN AWARD.

stool.D won over the 67-member jury, made up of independent experts from all over the world. The competition was intense: 6,375 entries were submitted from 52 countries in hopes of receiving the seal of quality.

More information about stool.D can be found in the “Design Excellence” section of the iF WORLD DESIGN GUIDE, and in this website's stool.D page.

In addition, stool.D has been selected to Dubai Design Week (DDW), Global Grad Show (GGS) 2018. Only two designs from South Korea were selected to this year's DDW GGS, and stool.D is one of 18 designs from Asia Universities. DDW GGS exhibits 150 design projects of 61 nationalities from 100 universities, including Harvard, MIT, RCA, Pratt and RISD. Among 150 design projects, stool.D has been shortlisted to final 11 design projects for the Progress prize of the 2018 Global Grad Show DDW – an international award that celebrates the next generation of design. Selected by a jury of design and technology experts, the winning project is awarded through a transparent and public process of deliberation and debate. stool.D will be exhibited at DDW from Nov 13 to 17 at Dubai Design District (d3). Designers of stool.D are Sangjin Park, Eunjun Jo and Prof. Young-Woo Park.

stool.D is a combination stool and cycling machine designed for small houses. Conventional cycling machines often struggle to integrate into the home, both spatially and aesthetically. stool.D addresses this problem by compressing a stationary bicycle into a single piece of multi-functional furniture. When the user pedals, LED lights provide visual feedback. The light rotates at the same rate as the pedaling speed and provides the user with pleasure and motivation. Pioneering a new exercise-enabled form of furniture, stool.D provides a means for users to remain active when they are sitting, working, playing games or watching TV. You can check the details of stool.D at here.
